STUDENT WORK PORTFOLIO

Here is a taster of some of our students' greatest work from this year.

I enjoy my course because the modules have been incredibly interesting particularly in the past year, being given the opportunity to write and produce my own magazine as well as come up with several advertising briefs for clients such as Havana Club rum and Hollister & Co. Having these opportunities has allowed me to get more involved with my work and made me a more competent and independent person when it comes to carry out certain tasks and responsibilities.

The relationship I’ve been able to develop with certain lecturers has also been something that I have enjoyed. Their advice and support has been fantastic when it comes to developing my own skills and experience over the last three years, and I’m happy to have had the particular expertise of lecturers like Kate Sillitoe and Simon Morrison.

My course has taught me how to be a competent and independent journalist since the decline in permanent paid positions in media has slowly increased competition across the job market. Therefore, I now recognise the skills and expertise future employers expect of me entering the industry. Hence, particular assignments in my final year have allowed me to develop a portfolio of both advertising and journalism components which has provided me with several freelance opportunities I could pursue now I’ve completed my undergraduate studies.

My course has widened my own knowledge the extent where i can now already see my career proceeding forward. It has taught me a range of technical skills and how the industry works. i believe all of this will accumulate to my future. I am constantly trying to solidify myself within the industry, I am always aware of trends and what styles are being discussed within the related industry, tools such as Instagram and YouTube are my bridge to the future and how my work will be produced.

When the brief was first introduced i had no idea what i could possibly do to advertise something that seemed so simple, the Mid Cheshire Line had already had huge publicity from their previous ad campaign that brought them huge success. I really struggled to try and formulate ideas that would work, but then i started to link in theory that we had been learning and using it to my advantage. It was then when i decided to create an animation, after that the rest fell into place.
